Rest Home Scandal: Ex-Board Members of Orpea Arrested
Two former board members of the French rest home group Orpea have been taken into custody as part of an investigation into breach of trust, fraud, embezzlement, organized money laundering, and corruption. Their pre-trial detention is part of a preliminary investigation of three former senior executives at Orpea. The former CEO and CFO were remanded into custody, while a former deputy CEO was placed under judicial supervision. This news comes after Orpea dismissed its director general amid mistreatment claims in January 2022.
As of June 30, 2023, the investigation into Orpea is ongoing. The French court has opened a preliminary investigation into three former senior executives at Orpea, and two former board members have been taken into custody as part of the investigation into breach of trust, fraud, embezzlement, organized money laundering, and corruption. The former CEO and CFO were remanded into custody, while a former deputy CEO was placed under judicial supervision. Orpea is also the subject of a twofold administrative and financial investigation. In November 2022, dozens of retirement homes of the Orpea group across France were targeted by police raids as part of the judicial investigation. The investigation concerns whether Orpea and certain of its officers and/or directors have engaged in securities fraud or other unlawful activities.
