Toshiba’s MG10F Series: Unveiling 22TB High-Capacity Hard Drives

Toshiba’s latest series of hard drives, the MG10F, addresses the growing need for extensive data storage with its impressive 22TB capacity, all packed into a 3.5-inch form factor.

What distinguishes the MG10F series is its use of conventional magnetic recording technology (CMR), built upon Toshiba’s trusted 10-plate sealed helium design. This approach not only ensures data integrity but also provides a substantial 20% boost in capacity compared to the previous 20TB model.

These 22TB hard drives are purpose-built to meet the demanding data storage requirements of large-scale users. They are compatible with a wide range of applications and workloads, suitable for deployment in both cloud-scale and traditional data center settings, as emphasized in Toshiba’s official statement.

The MG10F series HDDs deliver impressive performance with a rotational speed of 7,200 revolutions per minute (rpm) and an annual workload ratio of 550TB. Furthermore, they offer optional SAS and SATA interfaces, all within the standard 3.5-inch format, ensuring not only high performance but also energy efficiency, thanks to their helium-sealed design.

For those eager to acquire these advanced hard drives, test unit shipments of the 22TB MG10F series HDDs are set to commence immediately for the SAS interface, with availability for the SATA interface expected in the fourth quarter of 2023. This release represents a significant leap forward in meeting the ever-expanding data storage demands of modern computing environments.
